Greetings!

Welcome to your August newsletter.

We've got plenty of healthy life-changing courses to choose from - any one of them guaranteed to take your health to the next level!

We are sad to be saying goodbye to Tina this month, who is leaving to take up a full time position as a dental receptionist - thank you, good luck and keep smiling Tina! Mia has been learning the ropes and will be joining us part-time before the end of the month.

If you are in Lewes, please drop in and see us - we'll be glad to offer some free advice on any health-related questions you may have over a cool glass of water or a soothing organic cuppa.

We hope you have a great month!

Best wishes from Paul, Bekki, Rosie & Joel and all the Equilibrium team.

David Attenborough launches strategy to save Britain's Butterflies

Sir David Attenborough has announced the creation of Butterfly Survival Zones on 20 landscapes in the UK. Experts will work to safeguard butterflies in these zones and aim to increase their overall population.

The announcement made at the Natural History Museum was aimed to coincide with the Save Our Butterflies Week, which is a national campaign comprising of many conservation activities up and down the country.

"Almost unbelievably, much of Britain's countryside is a no-go area for many favourite butterflies. Habitat has been ploughed up or become overgrown. Anybody who's been for a country walk recently will tell you butterflies are a rarity. Scientists fear that in some areas we're entering a post-butterfly era," said Sir David.

    10 smart sunscreen tips

    10 smart sunscreen tips

Wonder why you use sunscreen and still burn? These 10 tips from greenlivingonline.com will help you get the most protection from your sunscreen.

    1. Know your sunshine
The sun produces two types of ultraviolet rays and both are believed to cause skin cancer: UVA penetrates deep into our skin and it's difficult to get full protection from these rays.
UVB doesn't penetrate the skin as deeply and so these are the rays that turn us red.

    New Service for Asthma Sufferers
New AirAlert service to help asthma sufferers

    Text Service for Asthma Sufferers

A free air quality text message alert service for asthma sufferers and people with other respiratory conditions has been launched this summer.

The airAlert service sends messages to mobile or home telephones and via email at times when poor air quality is predicted. The airAlert-4-schools service allows the information to be sent direct to teachers via text and email so that pupils can be informed when a pollution episode is expected.

Anyone with asthma or a respiratory complaint can register free online at www.airalert.info or by post by returning a freepost response form in the airAlert leaflets at your local GP surgery or clinic.

Call 01273 484331 for more details or visit eastsussex.gov.uk/airquality

Thai Yoga Massage available by donation
Thai Yoga Massage available by donation

This month, we are delighted to host Andrea, a Thai Yoga Massage student in her final year of training.
Andrea has nearly completed her Thai Yoga Massage course at the School of Thai Yoga Massage in London, run by Kira Balaskas, one of the leading UK experts in this therapy.

Thai Yoga Massage is a deeply healing and powerful combination of rhythmic massage, acupressure, deep stretching, gentle twisting, energy work and meditation all rolled into one experience. Thai massage is also known as passive yoga, or assisted yoga.

The massage generally follows the Sen Energy lines on the body (the Sen are comparable to Chinese meridians). The flow of the energy lines is stimulated, opening areas which are blocked and this brings the body, mind and spirit back into balance.

It is believed that the massage art was brought over to Thailand by Jivaka Kumar Baccha, known in Thailand as Dr Shivago, a contemporary of Buddha some 2500 years ago.

Andrea is offering treatments all this month on a donation-only basis. So, you paid what you wanted for your Radiohead album download - now you can do the same for your Thai Yoga Massage treatment. Whatever next?!

Click here to see a video of Thai Yoga Massage.
You can book your session by calling reception on 01273 470955.
