Buteyko
What is
the Classical Buteyko method?
The Russian medical scientist Professor Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko concluded
that the cause of a diverse range of chronic diseases is chronic hyperventilation.
The drug-free method developed by Dr. Buteyko changes the breathing pattern
enabling students, with continued practice guided by an experienced practitioner,
to manage their own symptoms of many common and often debilitating conditions
such as allergies, anxiety, frequent colds, depression, fatigue, hypertension
and pain.
How
can the Buteyko method help?
Retraining your breathing relaxes the diaphragm, quietens the mind and steers
you in the direction of breathing very lightly from a deeper place. This state
enhances Yoga and Meditation practice. Many students have remarked how this
approach enables them to maintain their energy levels, concentration and general
state of well being. The Buteyko Method not only helps to improve athletic
and artistic performance, it can help to improve overall performance in all
walks of life.
Who can
benefit from the Buteyko method?
Anyone who has less than optimal breathing will gain benefits to their general
health and improve their abilities and performance. Those with chronic symptoms
will be breathing at least 3 - 10 times more than is optimal therefore this
method is the way forwards out of chronic symptoms.
What can
the Buteyko method help?
This extraordinary program for retraining how we breathe restores health,
energy and wellbeing and moreover puts you back in control of your health.
What
happens in a session?
During the initial consultation the practitioner will take a full medical
history, symptoms and goals. Your breathing will be measured and you will
learn: basic lifestyle guidelines; how to master the prescribed breathing
exercises; how to improve your symptoms using the method, and we'll advise
you on how to build on your results. You will also be in regular contact with
a practitioner by phone or email who'll give you the support you need to implement
your newly learned skill so by the end of month one you will be competent
and confident in using the method.
How many
sessions will I need?~
The Classical Buteyko method is an active learning process, a re-education
and re-assessment of lifestyle, diet and general physical and mental wellbeing.
The total number of treatments needed varies from person to person, depending
both on the severity of the condition and the general health & wellbeing
of the client. Initially, the patient will be followed up for the first month.
