Cranio-Sacral Therapy
What is Cranio-Sacral Therapy?
A very gentle, hands-on therapy that can help to relieve a wide range of conditions whether physical, emotional and/or mental.
At the core of the craniosacral system is the cerebrospinal fluid enclosed within the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. This fluid at the centre of our physical body brings vitality to our whole being as well as having important physiological functions. It moves around the system in a rhythmical, tide-like motion that is reflected in subtle movements in the membranes, bones and other structures throughout the body.
Stress, trauma, injury and illness can restrict the craniosacral motion and, in time, give rise to physical and emotional problems and deplete our vitality.
Who can benefit from Cranio-Sacral Therapy?
The gentleness of this approach makes it safe and suitable for people of all ages from babies to the elderly. It can be effective in treating most conditions including back and neck pain, migraine, sinus problems, 'clicky' jaw, tinnitus, asthma, ME, functional disorders (digestive, hormonal, nervous), as well as the after-effects of injury and illness. It can help with emotional problems such as depression, trauma and stress-related conditions.
Craniosacral Therapy is increasingly recognised as an effective therapy for infant problems like colic, sucking problems, breathing difficulties and restlessness which often result from craniosacral imbalances caused during birth.
What happens in a Cranio-Sacral Therapy treatment?
You lie, fully clothed, on a comfortable couch.
The craniosacral therapist 'listens' to the body, identifies patterns of restriction,
and encourages them to release. This helps to restore balance and healthy
function throughout the body and to the person as a whole.
