What is Homeopathy?

If you have a problem affecting your well-being, homeopathy offers a safe approach that can be used alone or alongside conventional medicine. Homeopathy has been successfully used by thousands of people for over 200 years. Homeopathy takes a holistic approach to healing - it considers you as a thinking, feeling, living person with a history and a current lifestyle.

How does Homeopathy work?

It is believed to work on the basis of like cures like. Stimulus is provided in the form of a very highly diluted remedy that, if taken in its undiluted form, is believed to cause symptoms similar to those present in the patient.

Homeopathic medicine works on the belief that it is the individual as a whole who needs holistic therapy - not just the presenting symptoms.

* Homeopathy is non-addictive and non-invasive

* There are no harmful side effects

* Homeopathy can be used safely in conjunction with conventional medicines

Homeopathic remedies are thought to help us to feel better "in ourselves", restoring emotional balance so that life flows through us more freely. This reflects the truly holistic approach of homeopathy, which considers you as an individual not in isolation but as expressions of a bigger picture.

Who can Homeopathy help?

People seeking support with their healing of many ailments choose homeopathic remedies. We offer patient-centred care - we don't treat labelled diseases, we prescribe remedies to support you and your well-being. Sometimes (with your permission) we work with other professionals - your GP and perhaps your nutritional therapist, counsellor, osteopath or acupuncturist.

Thousands of people choose to address their health proactively by using homeopathic remedies under the guidance of a licensed homeopath.

Homeopathy is suitable for everybody but is ideal for treating children and infants, the elderly and pregnant women. We would be glad to offer a free 15 minute consultation to see whether homeopathy can help you.

Homeopathy is also freely available on the NHS, so if you are unable to afford a private appointment you can ask your GP for a referral - there are five UK NHS homeopathic hospitals.

What happens in a treatment?

The first treatment usually lasts at least an hour. The homeopath discusses your physical and emotional health as well as your family's medical history. Through this the homeopath will come to an understanding of how your symptoms have come about and what remedy will be appropriate for you. Each person is treated holistically. The practitioner will prescribe and supply a homeopathic remedy in tablet, powder or liquid form.

You may be invited to attend a follow-up consultation to discuss the effectiveness of your remedy.

How will I feel after taking my remedy?

How fast your remedy works will depend on the nature of your condition.

If your ailment is acute (i.e. short term) the effect can be very fast. However, for more chronic or long term illnesses the recovery can be slower.
