Please note that, as with any kind of alternative or complementary health care, hypnosis (and hypnotherapy) is not a substitute for seeing your medical doctor. If you have an ailment or injury you should consult your medical doctor before commencing a course with a hypnotherapist. And of course you should keep your doctor informed of the progress you make! Each person is treated as an individual so it is not possible to say exactly how many sessions are needed for each condition.

Sufferers of Irritable Bowel Syndrome are familiar with the debilitating effects of pain, bloating, wind, diarrhoea or constipation.
Most conventional treatment focuses on diet and uses antispasmodics (muscle relaxants) or fibre based products to regulate the bowel.
Most of the symptoms however, are able to be reduced or eradicated using hypnotherapy.

We look at the true causes of IBS and give you strategies to deal with them. Finally, by learning self-hypnosis you will gain greater control over many more areas of your life.

Stress and anxiety are normal parts of life. For many people, however, they can often dictate how they live, and what they can and can't do. Anxiety can manifest itself in anything from being frightened of new challenges through to the devastating feelings that accompany panic attacks. Conventional medications can alleviate many symptoms, but until the underlying causes are tackled they are unlikely to be completely successful.

Hypnotherapy allows you to learn how to truly relax, and techniques to enable you to control anxious thoughts and feelings. This brings a marvellous sense of freedom from the constraints of the past. The final stage of treatment is to learn self hypnosis, enabling you to continue to expand on the control you will have already gained-without needing anyone else.

For many people their skin can be a constant source of anxiety. Eczema, Psoriasis and Dermatitis can flare up at exactly the moment you don't want it to. At first sight it may seem unlikely that hypnotherapy can be much use. We believe however that the skin is a 'mirror of our emotions'. It is precisely because we are anxious that the skin breaks out, almost as if our body is trying to tell us something.

Hypnotherapy treatment involves a limited amount of finding out the causes for each individual sufferer, then concentrates on allowing the body to respond differently, thus reducing and controlling symptoms. Then by learning self hypnosis, you gain greater control not only over your skin but all areas of your life.

Pain is the body's mechanism for letting us know that something is wrong. So we can take our hand from a flame or we deal with that nagging headache. There are times, however, when pain continues long after we have tried to deal with the underlying problem, for example in arthritis or in back pain. This is no longer useful and can indeed become depressing and tiresome. Sometimes restricting activities and affecting our lives to an enormous degree.

Much of the effect of pain is possible to control using the power of the mind. After all, pain is our unconscious interpretation of the signals being sent to the brain. These signals come from the nerves in the affected area. If the interpretation is changed, the pain sensation can be dealt with in a more positive way. Hypnotherapy provides a mechanism to do this, gently and effectively, without the unpleasant side-effects of many analgesic drugs.

"If you really want to stop smoking, then one session of hypnotherapy could be all you need." Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)

The Advertising Standards Authority, who need hard evidence before they agree to statements, have recently agreed the following statement about the efficacy of hypnotherapy in stopping smoking:

"Research comparing many different studies of hypnotherapy has shown that on average smokers are over five times more likely to break the habit with hypnosis than by willpower alone. Hypnotherapy in general is also proven to be more than twice as effective compared with nicotine gum. If you really want to stop smoking, then one session of hypnotherapy could be all you need."

Richard Morley is our clinical hypnotherapist. He is a tutor at the London College of Clinical Hypnosis and a full member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis. He is one of only a few Certificated NLP and Health Practitioners in the UK, and a Master Practitioner and Trainer of NLP. He has helped hundreds of people from all walks of life become happier, healthier and more productive.

Richard says, "This statement, accepted by the ASA, quotes average figures. Many hypnotherapists get even better results than these."

"Smokers are physically addicted to nicotine. After four days without a cigarette they are no longer physically addicted - however they may have a psychological dependency. Some people are more physically addicted than others and some are more psychologically dependent than others. It is important that the therapy is focused on the specific needs of you - the individual, so that you get the benefits you (mistakenly) associate with smoking in some other healthier way."

"It may be that you need to learn alternative ways to become calm and relaxed in stressful situations. It may be that you need other ways of motivating yourself when you are bored. Some people need help in order to feel comfortable with the thought of being a non smoker - because they have smoked for so long. If this is done, many people find that they stop smoking after one session of hypnotherapy, rid themselves of the burden of smoking, become more energised, healthier, and better role models for their children."
