physiotherapy Physiotherapy

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a science based, healthcare profession concerned with human function and movement (CSP 2001)

Physiotherapists rehabilitate musculo-skeletal injuries and help to prevent further injury.

They can also assist with asthma, breathing difficulties and disorders of the nervous system.

What can Physiotherapy treat?

Common problems that can be helped by physiotherapy include:

* Sports injuries
* Chronic and acute back pain including sciatica and lumbago
* Neck pain and headaches
* Whiplash – industrial and accident claims welcome
* Work related repetitive strain injuries (RSI)
* Tennis elbow
* Shoulder pain and stiffness
* Hip, knee, ankle or foot stiffness and pain
* Poor core stability
* Orthopaedic problems such as fractures and joint replacements

When happens in a Physiotherapy treatment?

You receive an initial 45 minute consultation and treatment session with our chartered physiotherapist. During this session, the practitioner will assess, diagnose, and treat your problem or injury. Our physiotherapist will find the underlying cause of your pain or injury (not just the symptoms) and develop an effective treatment plan that takes into account your lifestyle and general health. This will include advice on how you can help yourself - for example you may be shown a few exercises to do between treatment sessions.

Chartered physiotherapists use a variety of treatments which include:

* Gentle manipulation and mobilisation to reduce pain and stiffness.
* Electrotherapy – for example, ultrasound to speed up the healing process.
* Corrective exercise programmes personally designed to reduce pain, improve mobility, strengthen muscles, improve posture and core stability.
